I feel kinda simple-minded right now because trying to figure out the joining process seems hard.. Help?

I know I want to be a Chaser, but I don't know if i have to be a specific type of Pokemon or what, and I don't know how to properly apply.. So..

You our can be any pokemon not already taken in the  Members Journal.

would someone mind informing me what the chasers, bandits, researchers, and guards do? i cant seem to find it! 
(although i could just be blind and it might be right infront of me :/)
